Torino’s sporting director Davide Vagnati has confirmed Tottenham Hotspur made an attempt to sign Andrea Belotti this summer.

Spurs finished the international transfer window having brought in seven players, one of whom was Carlos Vinicius on loan from Benfica.

The Brazilian was chosen as the man to provide cover for Harry Kane, and it remains to be seen if the South American will prove to be a success.

Tottenham’s striker search was seemingly a difficult one, with many names being linked with the club over the last few months.

One name that didn’t get too many mentions was Italian striker Belotti, but Vagnati has said Spurs did make a play for the 26-year-old.

He told Sky Sports (quoted by Football Italia): “I’d love to see Belotti stay at Torino for the rest of his career.

“He has values that are crucial for being the captain of Torino. We had a chat with Tottenham but Belotti is too important for us.”

Belotti is indeed massively important for Torino, having scored 94 goals in 194 games for the club. He also has nine in 28 caps for Italy.

Spurs will surely be pleased enough with their signing of Vinicius, but Belotti sure would have been a great signing.

The star’s goalscoring record is highly impressive, and the player is just about to come into his prime years at the age of 26.

Having already scored two goals in two games in 2020/21, Spurs fans may hope a stellar season isn’t in store.
