‘Top of the list’… Pundit just wishes Arsenal had signed £60m player before he joined Newcastle

Arsenal could really do with a clinical striker leading their line.

The Gunners have been accused of being too wasteful in the final third in recent weeks, and many have put that down to the fact Arsenal don’t have a finisher leading their line.

However, this could all have been avoided a few years ago if the Gunners had concluded a deal for Alexander Isak.

The Swedish striker was strongly linked with a move to Arsenal at one point, but, sadly, nothing came of that and Isak ultimately ended up joining Newcastle.

Speaking on the Handbrake Off Podcast, Adrian Clarke has been discussing some of Arsenal’s transfer near misses in recent years, and he says that Isak is the one player he wishes Arsenal had signed.

Clarke wishes Isak had signed

The pundit gave his verdict on the striker.

“Top of the list is Isak. That felt like it was quite close a couple of summers ago. I watched all of Sweden’s games at that Euros tournament and I was very excited by him. The way he carries the ball and his unpredictability. He’s shown at Newcastle that he’s a top talent and if he was in our squad right now competing with Jesus for a starting berth, I think our squad would be stronger.

What a player

Arsenal would be a totally different team if Isak was leading their line, and it’s hard to argue they wouldn’t be much better for it.

Indeed, Isak is much more clinical in front of goal than Gabriel Jesus, and he can also do all of the link-up play and dribbling that Arsenal want their strikers to do.

Factor in his size, and you have almost a complete striker there.

Unfortunately, the £60m man plays for Newcastle, and Arsenal must surely regret not signing him when they had the chance.
