Top-flight club reportedly working on £7m deal for Arsenal star – Leeds need to keep tabs

German website Ruhr24 have claimed that Schalke are working on a permanent £7million deal to sign Sead Kolasinac from Arsenal with the Bosnian currently on loan at the Bundesliga side – but do Leeds United need to take a look?

Kolasinac, 27, left Arsenal on loan until the end of the season in January – having played 113 times in all competitions for the North London side. The form of Kieran Tierney has pushed him out, while Bukayo Saka and Cedric Soares provide competition.

The 35-time Bosnia international has been handed the captain’s armband following his return to Schalke, where he has returned to the club he left for Arsenal. He has played five of Schalke’s six games since his return.

The Ruhr24 report states that Arsenal want £7million for the left-back, who has done well for Arsenal in his 78 Premier League appearances – but that Schalke will only sign him if they avoid relegation. They are rock bottom, 10 points adrift of safety.

Leeds, meanwhile, could do with a new left-back. Currently, Gjanni Alioski remains first choice on the left side of the defence – but is out of contract in the summer and even Turkish side Galatasaray have been linked, a move which would anger Leeds fans.

Stuart Dallas is probably first choice over the North Macedonia international, but Dallas’ versatility sees him being used in numerous other positions – covering at right-back, holding midfield and currently attacking midfield for the Whites.

With Alioski growing closer to the exit door and Dallas being key elsewhere as a utility player, Leeds need a left-back and at £7million – Kolasinac is ideal. His attacking nature and top-flight experience makes him a bargain at that figure.

In his 78 Premier League games for Arsenal, he has had a hand in 15 goals – scoring two and creating 13. He works hard, offers a physicality that is somewhat missing from the Leeds side, and can play on the left side of a back three.

If Leeds are in the market for a left-back ahead of the summer, they could do a lot worse than signing Arsenal’s Kolasinac.
