As the transfer window approaches, and the season over, clubs will no doubt be looking at players to strengthen their teams. Here we pick out the 5 top transfer rumours of the week.
Mario Mandzucic, Bayern Munich – Chelsea
Chelsea’s hunt for a brand new striker has stepped up a gear this week. Several reports have linked Bayern Munch’s Croatian forward Maddzucic with a move to Stamford Bridge. The 27 year old has impressed this season and has netted 18 times in the Bundesliga, more than any other Bayern player. In my eyes, I think that Mandzukic would be perfect for Chelsea; he scores goals, creates chances and tracks back, fitting Mourinho’s style of play perfectly. He is renowned for his aerial ability, which Chelsea have been lacking this season.
Mario Balotelli, AC Milan – Arsenal
With Olivier Giroud finding himself under increasing pressure in North London, Arsene Wenger will no doubt be in the market for another striker. Giroud has been Arsenal’s only real option up front this season, and the gunners have turned their focus to former Manchester City striker Mario Balotelli. Now in AC Milan, and their top scorer; there is no doubt of the Italian’s ability. However, it is extremely well documented that his various attitude problems caused hurdles for his Manchester City career, hence his exit. If Wenger feels he can control him, Balotelli might just be the man to guide Arsenal to a title next season.
Mats Hummels, Borussia Dortmund – Manchester United
This is a deal that is very likely to happen. United have been interested in Hummels in the past, and with the imminent departure of centre-back duo Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand, Manchester United will be looking to sign one centre-half at least. Hummels, 25, has been at Dortmund since 2009 and will represent Germany at this summers world cup. The dominant defender has always been likely to make the move to Old Trafford, and it is probable this deal will happen.
Adam Lallana, Southampton – Liverpool OR Spurs
Liverpool and Spurs are both tracking England international Adam Lallana from Southampton. Lallana has impressed and amazed both pundits and fans this season with his incredible form. He is their third top scorer and has created the most chances. It was always likely that he was to draw attention from big clubs in the summer, and after the world cup he will have a battle for his signature. Runners up Liverpool are the favourites, but Spurs could tempt Southampton with a swap deal for Andros Townsend.
Lionel Messi, Barcelona – Manchester City
To finish with, Manchester City are plotting an unrealistic £164 million offer for Barcelona’s Lionel Messi. The triple Ballon D’Or winning forward is widely regarded across the world as the best player in the world. And it would be very hard to see Messi completing the swap from Barca to Manchester. However, anything is possible in this beautiful game.
