The 2012/13 campaign has been a fascinating spectacle, but soon the Premier League action will be brought to an end. As always, off-season brings the opening of the summer transfer window.
With speculation regarding activity in the market already building, we look at the top 5 buys of the season.
1. Miguel Michu (£2 million)
On 20th July 2012, Michu signed a three-year contract with Premier league side Swansea, for a fee of £2 million.
Following the departure of Gylfi Sigurdsson, the club was looking for someone to fill that role behind the striker. However, he was given the number 9 shirt upon his transfer, and this saw him playing as a striker.
On his league debut on 18th August, Michu scored twice and provided an assist for Scott Sinclair in a 5–0 away win against QPR.
Michu has had a very impressive debut season for the swans by netting 17 goals in 33 games (all competitions).
2. Christian Benteke (£7 million)
On 31st August 2012, Benteke joined Premier league side Aston Villa for the fee to be around £7 million million pounds. The Belgium International has already broken Dwight York’s record for the club’s most goals in a Premier league season.
In his first campaign for Villa he has scored 18 times in 32 games and has been one of the key men to try to keep them up this season.
3. Robin Van Persie (£24 million)
On 15th August 2012, Arsenal announced they had agreed terms with Manchester United for his transfer.
By the 17th August, Van Persie had switched to Man United for an initial £22.5 million, with an additional £1.5 million to follow if United won a Premier League or Champions League title within the next four years.
He signed a four-year contract, keeping him at the club until June 2016.
He has been the main man for United’s title success this season, netting 25 goals in 36 games.
4. Daniel Sturridge (£12 million)
On 2nd January 2013, Sturridge completed a move from Chelsea to Liverpool, signing a long-term contract for an undisclosed fee thought to be in the region of £12 million.
Sturridge made his Liverpool debut on 6th January against Mansfield Town in the Fa cup third round, scoring his first Liverpool goal after just 7 minutes.
He has scored 7 goals in 12 games for Liverpool this season after coming in January, which he has made impact and settled in quickly.
5. Santi Cazorla (£16 million)
On 7 August 2012, it was officially announced that Cazorla had signed a long-term deal with Arsenal. He became Arsene Wengers third major signing of the summer after the arrivals of German Lucas Podolski and Frenchman Olivier Giroud.
The Spanish midfielder has been a very important to Arsenal’s midfield this season by scoring 12 goals and assisting 7. This could be a major for Arsenal to reach the champions league, which he needs to continue his form.
