Top 10 PL blockers so far: Arsenal star trails Newcastle ace; Leeds trio included

We used Who Scored to look at the top 10 players in the Premier League so far when it comes to making blocks. The list features Arsenal, Leeds and Newcastle United stars.

10) James Tarkowski (6)

The man who nearly departed for West Ham in the summer has only played five games after recovering from injury.

9) Liam Cooper (7)

Like Tarkowski, the Leeds United ace has also spent some time out injured but creeps into the top 10 after some solid defending.

8) Kevin Long (7)

A surprise inclusion but the Burnley man has waited patiently for his chance at Turf Moor and is taking his opportunity with aplomb.

7) Cheikhou Kouyate (7)

Crystal Palace have enjoyed a strong start to the campaign with Roy Hodgson finally getting things right at Selhurst Park.

6) Angelo Ogbonna (7)

West Ham’s Italian centre-back has made seven blocks and is now a mainstay in the Hammers’ team under David Moyes.

5) Robin Koch (9)

The German centre-back has been instrumental to Leeds’ strong start to the campaign and already looks a steal at £13 million.

4) Luke Ayling (9)

A versatile Leeds performer, Ayling completes a trio of Whites stars in the top 10. Having three in the list of 10 is indicative of how Marcelo Bielsa likes his team to defend and protect their own goal at all costs.

3) Jamaal Lascelles (9)

The Newcastle United skipper is enjoying a strong campaign at the heart of the Magpies defence and at 26 looks like getting even better.

2) Gabriel (9)

The Arsenal star has been a standout performer for the Gunners since making a £25 million move from Lille in the summer.

1) Federico Fernandez (14)

A staggering number of blocks for the Newcastle United man who has been inspired alongside Lascelles this season. The 31-year-old has really shone and is an integral member of Steve Bruce’s team.
