Tony Watt has weighed in on the comparisons made between Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard and Rangers hitman Alfredo Morelos, as fans and media alike continue to debate over which one is better.
Edouard, who is still only 21, scored on Thursday night as Celtic beat Romanian champions CFR Cluj to top Group E. Edouard opened the scoring, before new signing Mohamed Elyounoussi scored a second with a deflected effort.
It was not as good a night for Steven Gerrard’s Rangers. Morelos, 23, put the Light Blues ahead with an excellent finish, only for Young Boys to equalise after a James Tavernier mistake – before the Gers skipper slipped in injury time, allowing Young Boys to score a winner.
The comparisons continued after both strikers scored on Thursday night but former Celtic striker Watt took to Twitter to urge fans to stop suggesting one is better than the other, and just enjoy them while they remain in Scottish football.
TBR’s view – Who will leave first, Edouard or Morelos?
Edouard has been linked with a move to both Napoli and Borussia Dortmund of late, with some reports claiming he is worth as much as £30million. It is no wonder, with 42 goals in 97 Celtic appearances. He has nine in 14 this term.
Meanwhile, Morelos made it 69 goals in the Light Blue of Rangers on Thursday night – needing just 109 goals. The Colombian’s stats are better than Edouard and he even has more assists – 23 compared to Edouard’s 17.
The difference is that Morelos is perhaps more likely to get himself sent off, though he has seemingly improved that trait this season. Right now, it is almost impossible to suggest one is better than the other.
