Tony Dorigo reacted extremely positively on Twitter to Leeds United’s midweek victory over Newcastle United in the Premier League, giving a special mention to attackers Rodrigo and Raphinha for their displays.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side produced an eye-caching performance at Elland Road on Wednesday night to beat Newcastle 5-2 in the league fixture.

The Whites had five different goalscorers with Patrick Bamford, Rodrigo, Stuart Dallas, Ezgjan Alioski and Jack Harrison all on the scoresheet.

There was once again proof that they have incredible stamina and work-rate, as the teams were level at 2-2 in the second-half, but Leeds found a second wind to score three goals in the final 13 minutes.

The Yorkshire club are now up to 13th in the league table and have a glamorous trip to Old Trafford on Sunday to face Manchester United.

Dorigo picked out left-footed duo Rodrigo and Raphinha for their individual displays.

Rodrigo, 29, thrived in the attacking midfield position against Newcastle and scored his second goal for the club with a diving header from distance.

Meanwhile, 24-year-old winger Raphinha was a constant threat out wide without the goal reward and he was heavily involved with an all-action first-half display.

TBR’s View:

Leeds clearly have a really strong core within their team from the Championship that have made the step up to the top-flight fairly seamlessly, but it’s great to see some of their summer signings beginning to really find their feet and they’ve definitely brought into the philosophy.

Spain international Rodrigo has had a stop-start beginning to his Leeds career, but it’s clear he’s a massive talent and he’s got the intelligence to add even more creativity to a potent attack.

Meanwhile, Brazilian Raphinha has dislodged Helder Costa from XI and he’s an individual that catches the eye with his directness whenever he’s in possession.
