Tony Dorigo has lauded Kiko Casilla and Ben White for their performances in Leeds United’s goalless draw with Sheffield Wednesday, as he reviewed the Whites’ display on his own blog.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side secured a share of the points at Hillsborough. It was a hard-fought clash with both teams hitting the woodwork during the second-half.

Both sides were also denied by remarkable saves from the two goalkeepers. Steven Fletcher’s long-range effort was tipped over by Casilla, while Keiren Westwood clawed away Patrick Bamford’s header.

White also produced his own moment of brilliance during the first-half. He timed a sliding challenge impeccably to deny Adam Reach when the Wednesday man burst into the Leeds box.

And Dorigo praised both Casilla and White, and suggested that their performances were crucial as Leeds struggled to make an impact at the other end of the pitch.

“On a positive note, it’s good to see Leeds grind out a result when not at their best,” he wrote on tonydorigo.com.

“The inventiveness and fluidity of Leeds’ forward play were absent, so it’s even more important to be very good at the other end. In Kiko Casilla and Ben White, Leeds had two players that rose to the challenge and produced excellent performances in difficult defending conditions.”

There is no question that White has been an outstanding signing for Leeds. It is difficult to think of a game where he has not been a contender for man of the match since he arrived on loan.

Meanwhile, Casilla has silenced a number of his critics this season. His shot-stopping ability has never been in doubt. But his decision-making has been a lot better this term.

And it would be difficult to argue with those who suggested that Saturday saw the Spaniard’s best performance since he arrived from Real Madrid.
