Tony Dorigo has claimed the improvement in Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford has been exceptional this year, and he’s been particularly impressed with the way he’s kept going lately during a mini goal drought.

Bamford, who earns £35,000-a-week (Spotrac), scored in the previous game during the impressive 3-1 victory at home to Tottenham.

However, the 27-year-old had been on a run of five Premier League matches without scoring beforehand, his longest run of the campaign.

The English centre-forward now has 15 league goals this season, leaving him with three matches to get as close to the 20-goal mark as he can.

Dorigo has highlighted the drive that Bamford has in his game to score goals.

“The improvement in Patrick Bamford has been absolutely superb,” Dorigo told LUTV.

“To get another opportunity back in the big time, you wondered how he would do. Well, he’s relished it. He’s been backed by the manager as well, and great to see him back scoring goals.

“The last couple of games, he hasn’t had the support and opportunities to score as he would have liked. He got taken off at Brighton, and I’m sure he wouldn’t have been too happy with that. but he keeps going. If he gets in the right areas, he will score and a goal against Spurs.

If you look back to the stick Bamford has received in his career, it’s clear that he’s always been made of thick skin and that he can ignore the hate fired towards him.

He’s always been perceived as someone that will fall short of being a top striker, and before this season he had never been given a proper run in the Premier League to show his talent.

The faith shown in him this season though from Leeds manager Bielsa has elevated his game to new heights.
