Tony Dorigo has described Leeds United forward Tyler Roberts as a “really good player” after his brace against Hull City at the weekend.

The Wales international came off the bench to score two late goals in an impressive 4-0 away win over Hull in the Championship.

It was only the striker’s 13th appearance of the season due to a spate of injuries, but he made the most of his cameo role on the pitch when replacing teammate Patrick Bamford.

Roberts first of all fired in a low left-footed shot past the goalkeeper, before directing a corner into the far corner to wrap up three league points.

The 21-year-old has had a frustrating individual campaign to date, but will hope he’s now given himself a platform to kick on for the final 10 Championship matches of the season.

Dorigo hailed him after the weekend, while insisting that fans haven’t seen him at his peak yet.

“I’m delighted for Tyler Roberts because on the sidelines it’s difficult when you’re injured and your in and out the side. Haven’t seen the best of him, he’s a really good player,” Dorigo told LUTV.

TBR’s View:

Leeds sit second in the Championship table with a five-point cushion over third-placed Fulham, but are going to need one more big push to get over the line for automatic promotion.

Roberts is someone who has hardly featured for Marcelo Bielsa’s team this campaign, but perhaps he’s now set to play an important role in the remaining fixtures.

With Patrick Bamford a little out of form in front of goal, Welsh attacker Roberts looks like a great alternative and he must be desperate to play.

He needs better luck with injuries and more regular minutes to really show supporters what he’s capable of in attack.
