Tony Dorigo has taken a swipe at a small section of Leeds United fans for booing the club’s centre-forward Patrick Bamford.
The 26-year-old has had his fair share of criticism during his time at Elland Road and ex-Whites player Dorigo did reference some unsavoury noise from supporters in the crowd last season away to Preston.
He managed 10 goals in 25 games across all competition last season and this campaign has started with four in 11 matches.
The left-footed striker isn’t the most natural finisher and does waste chances in front of goal, but he’s shown his importance to the side in other ways recently.
Bamford has a tremendous work-rate to spearhead the attack by himself and manager Marcelo Bielsa does favour him in the starting XI ahead of highly-rated loanee Eddie Nketiah.
“The curious case of fans booing their own players has never ceased to surprise me. Brought into focus earlier in the season when Patrick Bamford was momentarily targeted by a micro section of the Leeds fans, the boo-boys had locked in their target,” Dorigo wrote in his blog.
“Why boo one of your own? Do you really think you are helping and supporting your team? Maybe you actually think that manager Marcelo Bielsa will ditch his top-level experience and super detailed knowledge of the player and how he fits into his tactics because……a few fans made booing noises in the stand?”

TBR’s View:
Bamford does divide opinion in the Leeds fanbase and unfortunately there will always be a few idiots who take there protests too far on the sidelines.
But most importantly for the player he’s got the faith of Bielsa and is repaying him with some strong performances in the Championship.
His four-goal tally isn’t enough for the kind of chances he’s been getting this season and if he can improve in that area he will be a phenomenal player at Elland Road.
