Tony Dorigo has backed Leeds United’s reported pursuits of Udinese playmaker Rodrigo De Paul and Atalanta midfielder Ruslan Malinovskyi this summer – claiming he would be “happily surprised” if Leeds completed a move for the latter.
Argentina international De Paul has been strongly linked with the Whites, and even confirmed to a Leeds fan on Twitter earlier this month that he was hoping Udinese and Leeds could come to an agreement. Goal claim Udinese rate him at £37million.
The Telegraph have claimed that Leeds are also considering Malinovskyi, who would be a cheaper option at just £20million. He had a hand in 15 goals last season, even netting in the Champions League against Manchester City.
Asked about Malinovskyi, Dorigo – who commentates on Serie A football and is an expert in that area – has stated he would be “happily surprised” if Leeds landed the Ukraine ace. On both De Paul or Malinovskyi, Dorigo also gave an exciting verdict.
TBR’s view – Which player would be the better option?
Both of similar age and both with more than 15 caps at international to their name, De Paul and Malinovskyi would be stunning additions for a club that only gained promotion back to the Premier League in the past couple of months.
But under Marcelo Bielsa, versatility is key. De Paul can play out wide, in the middle as a holding midfielder or as a number 10 – while Malinovskyi is purely a central midfielder. A tick on De Paul’s notebook – but he is much more expensive.
It is difficult to pick, but De Paul may just slightly edge it.
