Tony Cascarino has raved about the qualities of Liverpool defender Andy Robertson.
Pundit Cascarino has picked his Champions League team of the group stage from the four English teams that have all qualified for the last-16 of the competition.
He included five Reds players in his XI, including Scottish left-back Robertson.
The 25-year-old featured in all six group stages matches and scored in a memorable 4-3 home win over Red Bull Salzburg at Anfield.
Jurgen Klopp’s team are looking to defend their Champions League crown after beating Tottenham in the final last year and qualified this season as group winners.
Cascarino has been impressed by Robertson on the European stage and even made a comparison with Chelsea’s N’Golo Kante for his sheer work-rate and tenacity.
“High quality on the ball and is like N’Golo Kante, never stopping, always chasing and harrying opponents,” he wrote in the Times print edition (Page 73, 13 December).
It seems odd to compare full-back Robertson with midfielder Kante, but there is no doubt both have an incredible stamina and are arguably the best in their respective positions in world football.
Chelsea’s Kante has made a name for himself for being an engine in the midfield that has dominated in the Premier League during recent years, as well as lifting a World Cup with France in 2018.
Liverpool have a full-back duo in Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold that work tirelessly up and down the flank for 90 minutes.
Robertson has proven himself at the elite level since his arrival at Anfield from Hull City in 2017 and if anything still has time to get evern better.
