Former Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino has criticised the contribution of Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang after their 3-0 defeat to Manchester City yesterday.
In the Times, Cascarino said Aubameyang could ‘learn a lot’ from Sheffield United’s David McGoldrick, despite the fact the man signed on a free transfer in 2018 (BBC) is yet to score a goal this season.
He said: “Some were unhappy with my criticism of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang when I said his attitude was poor. But one man in the Premier League today helps prove my point and that’s David McGoldrick. He hasn’t scored a league goal this season but he’s in Chris Wilder’s team nearly every week. Why?
“He is a team player and a perfect example of why a modern-day forward has to be about more than scoring goals. His contribution is huge — he defends from the front, terrorises defenders, makes clever and selfless runs. McGoldrick is a great modern striker and the likes of Aubameyang could learn a lot from watching him play.”

TBR’s View – Cascarino would have been better describing differences between Sheffield United and Arsenal
Perhaps Aubameyang could do more off the ball but it doesn’t bear thinking about where Arsenal would be with a centre forward who has not scored a goal all season.
But Sheffield United showed when they beat Arsenal this season that they are united, have an identity and are resilient; everything Arsenal should be but aren’t.
