Tony Cascarino says that Mauricio Pochettino needs to stop asking Hugo Lloris to play out from the back so often because the £100,000-a-week (Spotrac) stopper has never been able to play that way.
Lloris fluffed a Cruyff turn against Southampton on Saturday, which allowed Danny Ings to make it 1-1, but even though Tottenham got out of jail thanks to Harry Kane, Cascarino thinks something needs to change.
As per the Times, Cascarino said: “Mauricio Pochettino tried to take the heat off Hugo Lloris after his goalkeeper was dispossessed by Danny Ings for Southampton’s equaliser while turning on the ball.
“‘Don’t blame Hugo, blame me. I demand him to play this way,’ Pochettino said. Lloris is a great shot-stopper, capable of pulling off world-class saves, but has never excelled with his feet. Pochettino should stop asking him to do something he finds so difficult.”

TBR’s View – Perhaps Tottenham overplay but emphasis is on Lloris to cut out silly risks
It’s a common trope for a manager to come out and protect a player who makes a mistake as part of his demanding philosophy.
But at the end of the day, the emphasis is on Lloris to not take silly risks like the one he did against Ings on Saturday. Playing out from the back doesn’t have to mean elaborate Cruyff turns under pressure.
That’s not Pochettino’s philosophy, that’s all on Lloris and it’s only him who can cut that out and improve his decision making.
