Tony Cascarino says Jack Grealish is a Champions League standard midfielder

The former Aston Villa striker says the midfielder wouldn’t look out of place at Tottenham.

Tony Cascarino has lavished praise on Aston Villa star Jack Grealish after his goalscoring display in his side’s 2-1 victory over Brighton.

In the Times, Cascarino raved over the £35,000-a-week (Spotrac) star, saying he wouldn’t look out of place at Tottenham, who had a 2018 bid for the Englishman rejected, according to the Telegraph.

He said: “Jack Grealish is playing like a man who belongs in the Premier League. He was outstanding against Brighton: getting his team on the ball, driving them forwards and creating and scoring goals. It was a captain’s performance.

“Grealish will test Aston Villa’s ambitions sooner rather than later. A midfielder with his talent should be playing Champions League football. He would not look out of place in midfield for Tottenham, who did not push the boat out to sign him in August. Gareth Southgate was at Villa Park and a senior call-up should not be far away.”

TBR’s View – Grealish enjoys being the main man at Villa, Tottenham move would be a risk

Setting aside that Tottenham are a team in a state of flux – which would likely be enough to put Grealish off leaving his boyhood club – a move to north London would be a risk.

Grealish is the main man at Villa, given a free role to express himself and loved by the fans. At Tottenham, that wouldn’t be the case.

The feeling Grealish has for the club and its fans mean that as long as they are in the Premier League, Villa Park is the best place for him to be.
