Tony Cascarino says he’s noticed something about the Mesut Ozil situation

Former striker Tony Cascarino has expressed his confusion about Mesut Ozil’s seeming lack of ‘inner fight’ at Arsenal.

The midfielder has been left out of Unai Emery’s last three matchday squads, and fans are trying to work out how he could have fallen from grace so drastically.

Ozil, a £42.4 million signing from Real Madrid in 2013, has struggled to show his best form since signing his huge £350,000-a-week contract in January 2018 (BBC Sport).

The 30-year-old is frequently linked with a move away from the club, with the MLS and China touted as possible destinations.

While Emery has cited other players being more deserving of a place in his squad, the player himself has remained tight-lipped, which isn’t sitting right with Cascarino.

The former Chelsea striker said (talkSPORT): “A lot has been said about Ozil, there’s one thing from the outside that bothers me.

“Certainly from a World Cup winner, a very experienced player, been a captain – is how comfortable he seems to feel with him saying absolutely nothing about being left out, being dropped from squads.

” I feel like there needs to be much more fight from him to be in this team or to be part of this squad.”

One might have thought he would have something defiant to say given his unusual situation.

Unfortunately it does come across as though the hunger isn’t really there and that he is happy to coast and pick up the wages he does.

Perhaps that is harsh to say and he is just trying to get his head down.

One thing is for sure, fans are getting tired of not knowing what’s going on and hope the playmaker sheds a little light soon.
