Tony Cascarino says 'amazing' Trent Alexander-Arnold has to go to Euro 2021
Talksport pundit and former Chelsea striker, Tony Cascarino, believes Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold simply has to go to the Euros with England this summer.
Alexander-Arnold put in a brilliant performance this week as Liverpool saw off Manchester United at Old Trafford. The right-back was a constant threat, and came out of the game with two assists to his name.
However, he is under threat in terms of the Three Lions. England boss Gareth Southgate has a host of options at the right back slot, and has overlooked the Liverpool man in recent times.
But Cascarino, speaking on Talksport today, believes Alexander-Arnold was as good anything he’d ever seen at Old Trafford, and says he simply has to go this summer.
“I think Trent was amazing. I can’t think of too many better full-back performances – I’m going back to Roberto Carlos, Cafu, Philipp Lahm, I thought he was extraordinary on the night. His right foot is just a joy to watch, how dangerous it can be,” Cascarino commented.
“But I just can’t imagine how you can leave someone so good, especially if you need to beat teams and someone who needs to make a difference – Trent would have to go! He would have to, for me. If you’re playing a team you think you should beat and you know they haven’t got a left sided player who is really dangerous, again, Trent has got to play!”
Alexander-Arnold is in competition with the likes of Reece James and Kyle Walker. Others, such as Aaron Wan Bissaka, and Kieran Trippier, are also in the frame.
TBR View: Alexander-Arnold proved how good he is, England have to pick him
If anything, just for his dead-ball expertise. England don’t have many in the squad who can quite strike a ball like Trent so really, he has to go to the Euros.
The option to pick 26 players has made life easier for Southgate, too. Based on the other night, it seems simply inconceivable that England and Southgate leave the Liverpool man at home.
