Tony Cascarino predicts whether Arsenal or Manchester City will win title this season

Tony Cascarino has shared who he expects to win the Premier League title this season, with Manchester City now five points behind Arsenal at the top of the table.

Pep Guardiola’s side have only won one of their last six Premier League games, with Crystal Palace coming from 2-0 down at the weekend to take a point away from the Etihad Stadium with them.

Arsenal meanwhile, are back at the summit. They responded to their 1-0 loss to Aston Villa earlier in the month by beating Brighton at the Emirates on Sunday. They are actually the only team to stop the Seagulls scoring this season.

Manchester City tipped to catch Arsenal in Premier League title race

The Gunners look to be gearing up to make a real charge. Martin Odegaard is getting to his best. Meanwhile, Kai Havertz has been getting better and better.

Nevertheless, Tony Cascarino has told The Times that he cannot look past the current champions for the title, believing that they will hit their straps at some point in the coming months.

“Manchester City remain my firm favourites. At the moment they are the worst version of themselves but that will not continue for long, and despite that poor run of form they are only five points behind the leaders, Arsenal,” he wrote.

“City are more than capable of bridging that gap and they have shown an ability to extend themselves in recent years, particularly in the February-March period, which is also when Kevin De Bruyne is expected to return.

“Some may point to the recent form of Martin Odegaard as a reason Arsenal are about to leave City behind. He’s a wonderful player who can inspire those around him, but in a shoot-out between him and De Bruyne, the City midfielder has the edge.”

Gunners have brilliant opportunity to make statement this weekend

This weekend is going to be fascinating. Manchester City are not playing against Brentford as they compete in the Club World Cup.

That presents Mikel Arteta’s side with the chance to extend their lead to eight points. But that would require Arsenal to go to Anfield and beat Liverpool.

The Reds are another side yet to find their best form this season. However, they are very much in the mix this term, having been at the summit of the division before the weekend.

So it would be a huge statement if Arsenal could put more daylight between themselves and City at the expense of Liverpool.
