Tottenham were thumped 7-2 on their own patch by Bayern Munich last night but ormer Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino praised Son Heung-min regardless.
On a night which covered no Spurs player in glory, Cascarino was keen to praise the South Korean international, who he feels has become something of a talisman in the last year.
As per the Times, he said: “Tottenham have been described as the Harry Kane team but in this calendar year it has been more like the Son Heung-min team because he has been their best player. The South Korea forward has become the team’s go-to man when they are seeking some inspiration to break down stubborn opponents.
“It was no surprise when he made the early breakthrough last night. Other players may get the headlines, but he gets on with his job quietly and effectively. He is brilliant at driving at defenders and testing goalkeepers with powerful shots.”

TBR’s View – Formation change may get more out of Son as Spurs look for a response
Mauricio Pochettino has stuck to a narrow diamond formation for much of this season, presumably with the idea of getting a pacy forward around Harry Kane.
But it just isn’t working and while Son is an able deputy for Kane up front, moving him back out to the left may give the team a better balance and provoke a response.
Pochettino needs more from his players – Son will never give anything less than his all, but others’ attitudes have been poor – but he also needs to be better tactically and move away from the diamond.
On another note, Cascarino’s praise is strange in terms of its timing. But Son has been exceptional in 2019 and was unfortunate to miss out on the nominations for PFA Player of the Year.
