Tony Cascarino was full of praise for Newcastle goalkeeper Martin Dubravka after his performance in the 1-0 victory over Chelsea on Saturday.
In the Times, Cascarino compared Dubravka to Danny Ings of Southampton in terms of his importance to Steve Bruce’s side.
He said: “At £4 million Martin Dubravka is one of the best value-for-money players in the Premier League. Week upon week the goalkeeper pulls off brilliant saves to keep Newcastle in matches.
He shone against Chelsea, pulling off an acrobatic stop to deny Tammy Abraham in the second half. Dubravka’s performances are just as important for Steve Bruce’s team as Danny Ings’ goals for Southampton.
“Goalkeepers are scrutinised when they make mistakes but don’t get enough credit when they do well.”

TBR’s View – Dubravka getting back to his very best
As Cascarino eludes to, there have been times when Dubravka has cost Newcastle with mistakes.
That happens, but what defines players is how they recover and Dubravka looks to be getting back to his very best.
Dubravka played well against Wolves last weekend and helped his side earn a point and performed expertly at the weekend as they clinched all three against Chelsea.
The comparison with Ings is slightly too far – the Englishman has almost single-handedly fired his team out of relegation danger – but Dubravka has proved a snip.
