Tony Cascarino praises Arsenal’s attacking players after Manchester United victory

Former Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino praised the way Mikel Arteta has already transformed the contributions of Arsenal’s attacking players.

In the Times, he reserved special praise for Nicolas Pepe and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang after the 2-0 victory at the Emirates Stadium last night.

He said: “Nicolas Pépé’s goal showed the influence Mikel Arteta has exerted. The Spaniard has come from Manchester City, where the wingers routinely got themselves in good scoring positions to meet crosses. Leroy Sané did it all the time and Raheem Sterling has scored a hatful of goals that way. Pépé was perfectly placed to meet Sead Kolasinac’s cross.

“A few weeks ago I used the word “disgusting” to describe the attitude of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang but something strange happened last night. After 20 minutes [he] chased back and won the ball. I thought: “Has Roberto Firmino signed for Arsenal?” because that is what he does for Liverpool all the time.”

TBR’s View – Arsenal must produce this intensity consistently

Arsenal have produced performances like this in recent years – they won last season’s home match with United 2-0 as well – but the challenge is producing consistency.

Arteta fielded all his best attacking players last night and if he can find a formula for doing that more often, while also making his team more solid, Arsenal can race up the table.
