Aston Villa’s run back up the Championship table certainly had a lot to do with the return to fitness of Jack Grealish. The talented midfielder’s injury comeback saw Aston Villa go on a sensational run of form and they are now favourites going into the Championship showpiece.
Such form has again attracted interested parties. But teams will have to pay big for the player. As reported by The Mirror, he has a £60 million buy-out clause in his Villa Park deal.
It was a topic of discussion for Tony Cascarino on talkSPORT this weekend. The former Aston Villa striker is clearly a big fan of Grealish, but seemed to be shocked at the price-tag.
“Obviously the big fee is, on his contract, apparently a £60 million buy-out clause. Which seems a hell of a lot of money.
“Jack is a real talent. I think if he played at a higher level, whether that’s with Villa or with another Premier League club, he could shine again.
“It’s still a lot of money though…Maybe that’s where we are in football. You’re not getting the complete package which you’d think you get for £60 million.”
TBR’s View
Grealish is undoubtedly a special talent. His natural ability was never in doubt but he has shown an incredible maturity this season which probably adds another £10 million to his price-tag alone.
However, Aston Villa fans would even find it hard to convince a neutral he is worth £60 million.

The transfer market has certainly been out of control in recent years. With that in mind, Grealish could easily be worth up to £40 million, considering his age and potential.
But £60 million? That would make him more expensive than Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, on par with Riyad Mahrez and marginally cheaper than Ajax’s midfield maestro Frenkie de Jong.
Aston Villa are right to have this offputting clause in his deal. Grealish is their main asset and should not go cheap. But there is surely no doubt the club would consider selling him for significantly less.
