Tony Cascarino has claimed in his Times column that on loan Newcastle United striker Salomon Rondon is worth a whopping £50million, as he continues to shine in the Premier League.
The 29-year-old is currently on loan at St. James’ Park from Championship side West Bromwich Albion. His move to Tyneside saw Dwight Gayle go in the opposite direction until the end of the campaign.
The Express & Star claim Rondon can join Newcastle for £16.5million, if the Baggies fail to gain promotion. That is because there is a relegation release clause in Rondon’s contract. which becomes active again if West Brom remain in the Championship.
But Cascarino believes the Venezuela international is worth a whopping £50million. If Cascarino is right, Newcastle would have to spend such a figure to sign the ex-Zenit St. Petersburg if the Baggies gain promotion.

“In January last year, Alan Pardew persuaded West Bromwich Albion to turn down £38 million from China for Salomón Rondón. If he keeps playing like this, he could be a £50 million striker,” Rondon said.
“There hasn’t been a better signing this season, but he is only on loan at Newcastle. If they can make it permanent, they should, because he can be a Champions League player.”
TBR’s view
Rondon’s goal on Saturday came as somewhat of a surprise. Renowned for his excellent aerial prowess and strength, the striker curled a free-kick into the top corner from the best part of 25 yards.
It proves that Rondon has a bit of everything. Strikers, like Rondon, are worth plenty these days – especially if they have shown they can score regularly in the Premier League.
It remains to be seen if Newcastle can land Rondon on a permanent basis, but after Cascarino’s claim, Newcastle will be hoping they can do just that.
