Tony Adams thinks Arsenal need to replace Hector Bellerin

Tony Adams has told Stadium Astro that he thinks Arsenal need to replace Hector Bellerin ahead of the upcoming January transfer window – with the Spanish defender being linked with a return to Barcelona.

Bellerin, 25, has been a mainstay in the Arsenal team this season – starting 12 of Arsenal’s 14 Premier League games, but was an unused substitute against Everton on Saturday. Ainsley Maitland-Niles replaced him.

The Mirror claim that Barcelona are keen on signing Bellerin ahead of the January window, and a fee of £22million plus add-ons has been discussed. It would see Bellerin return to Barca, nine years after leaving for Arsenal.

Arsenal legend Adams wants to see Bellerin replaced on the right of the Gunners defence, comparing the Arsenal defence to Everton’s and claiming the right-back has been inconsistent this season.

“The biggest thing for me, I think we need a right-back to be honest with you. Hector has been inconsistent for me this season. Holgate and Godfrey, the whole back four won the game for Everton – and rock solid,” Adams said.

TBR’s view – Bellerin is a key figure for Arsenal

Surely he needs to be kept for his influence on the dressing room as one of the long-serving players at Arsenal. Yes, he has struggled of late with his form, and he needs replacing in the short-term.

But class is permanent and keeping him in the side is key. Certainly, Bellerin played for Spain and broke into the squad under Luis Enrique just this season. Out of form, but a player that needs to be kept at Arsenal.
