Takehiro Tomiyasu has been discussed by a raft of Arsenal fans on Twitter following the defender’s performance for the Gunners in their emphatic win over Southampton on Saturday.

Mikel Arteta’s men put their disappointing run behind them to claim the three points. Goals from Alexandre Lacazette, Martin Odegaard and Gabriel Magalhaes settled the contest.

Arsenal were not always at their best. But a number of their players stepped up in the wake of their frustrating defeat to Everton on Monday night.

Martin Odegaard was a shining light at Goodison Park. And it would be difficult to argue with those who felt that he was man of the match against the Saints. But there were several others who really stepped up.

And Tomiyasu was definitely one who received a lot of plaudits on social media following the victory.

The Japan international has been solid throughout his time at the Emirates. His consistency has been a huge boost to Arsenal, who had struggled at right-back before his arrival in the summer.

And he was brilliant again on Saturday. No player on either side completed more passes than the 23-year-old, while he also won five aerial duels, according to Whoscored.

He played a part in both of Arsenal’s first two goals. And he looked strong at the back throughout the entire contest.

Certainly, plenty of Gunners supporters cannot quite believe that they managed to sign the former Bologna man for just £15.5 million during the previous window.

They are adamant that he has cemented himself as one of the first names on the team sheet. And they are incredibly excited to see what levels he can reach in the years to come.
