Tomas Soucek names Spurs star as his Player of the Season
Tomas Soucek has responded to Jamie Carragher labelling him the Premier League signing of the season by insisting to Sky Sports that he would name a Spurs star as his Player of the Year.
Like many of his teammates, Soucek has enjoyed an incredible year with the Hammers. The Czech Republic international has scored nine goals in the top flight.
His form prompted Carragher to recently single him out as the league’s best buy this year.
Soucek suggested that he was delighted to see his form recognised, before adding that he would name a Tottenham player as the league’s best overall this year.
“I really appreciate this from Jamie. It’s great for me and makes me work [harder] at the training ground and during games,” he told Sky Sports.
“For me, Harry Kane is player of the season because his goals and assists are incredible. Bruno Fernandes has had a brilliant season, too – he changed Manchester United. So these two guys [stand out] for player of the season.”
Kane has certainly had an amazing season. He leads the goalscoring charts along with Mo Salah with 22 goals to his name.
But remarkably, he is also three clear at the top of the assist charts.
Unfortunately, it has not been enough to bring success to Spurs this season. And of course, supporters are now reeling from the reports claiming that Kane has told Tottenham that he wishes to leave.
The England captain could have hardly done more to try and take Spurs towards silverware this term.
And perhaps that may be why he feels that now is the time to move on – along with other factors. He is at the peak of his powers and yet, Spurs still seem some way off being at the level they found themselves at just a couple of years ago.
