Tomas Soucek claims West Ham may have deserved more against Spurs

Tomas Soucek has told West Ham United’s official website that the Hammers may have actually deserved more than a point against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

Spurs and David Moyes’s men played out an incredible 3-3 draw in North London. Jose Mourinho’s side had looked destined to blow the visitors away.

They were 3-0 up inside 16 minutes and playing some outstanding football. At that stage, Hammers fans would have been forgiven for turning off the game and simply hoping the score did not get too much worse.

West Ham did improve after the break. But the score remained 3-0 until the final eight minutes. However, from there, the Irons then somehow managed to get a point.

The comeback was capped off with a stunning goal from Manuel Lanzini with almost the last kick of the contest.

That meant that West Ham were level for little more than a minute of the game – having gone behind inside 45 seconds. Nevertheless, Soucek – who cost £15 million in the summer, according to Sky Sports – has suggested that there may be some associated with the Hammers who felt that they could have got more.

“Sometimes it’s very boring when a team is losing 3-0 in the last ten minutes, but we had talked together at half-time and said we wanted to win the second half of the game,” he told the club’s official website.

“It was very hard because all week we had prepared well. We had seen many videos and tactics of them, but it is very hard for everybody when you’re losing 3-0 after 20 minutes.

“It was incredible because we played well I think. The whole game we kept the ball and created many chances, and we deserved a point – maybe three points – but still, after 80 minutes, we were losing 3-0.”

TBR View: Many will disagree West Ham deserved more, despite amazing comeback

Of course, most Tottenham fans will disagree with Soucek’s perspective. Mourinho’s men were sensational in the early stages.

And while West Ham improved after the break, both Harry Kane and Gareth Bale came agonisingly close to adding a fourth in the second-half.

Ultimately it was a game that both sides will takes positives from. Tottenham were superb at times, once again.

Meanwhile, the Irons showed incredible spirit to get back into the game and somehow snatch a point.
