Joe Gelhardt has completed a move to Leeds United from Wigan Athletic, penning a four-year deal with the newly-promoted Premier League side – and Tom Pearce has reacted on Instagram.
Gelhardt, 18, has broken into Wigan’s senior side of late – clocking up 21 appearances for the Latics first team. He was highly-rated at the DW Stadium and plenty of big clubs were considering moves for the powerful striker.
Leeds have won the race to sign the England Under-18 international, with a deal confirmed on Monday evening. He is the club’s fourth signing of the summer, after Illan Meslier, Helder Costa and Jack Harrison.
Gelhardt underlined his delight at agreeing a move to Elland Road on Instagram following confirmation of a move. It gives the big striker a chance to play in the Premier League, with the Whites lacking in cover for Patrick Bamford.

Gelhardt played alongside Pearce at Wigan after the left-back departed Leeds United last summer to complete a permanent move to Wigan. He managed 10 senior appearances for Leeds before hie exit.
Pearce responded to Gelhardt’s move on Instagram, wishing the striker the best of luck while also describing Leeds as a “great club” with “great fans”. Pearce is said to have sold Gelhardt on a move to Elland Road.
