Tom Heaton would be ideal solution to Leeds’ goalkeeping crisis

Following Jamal Blackman’s broken leg which saw him return to Chelsea and Bailey Peacock-Farrell’s knee injury in training, Leeds appear to have found themselves in the midst of a goalkeeping crisis.

The Yorkshire Evening Post believe that the solution could be former England international Tom Heaton, who has failed to regain his place at Burnley after injury saw him lose the number one shirt to Nick Pope last season and then Joe Hart this campaign.

However, Heaton would not be able to join the club on an emergency loan in preparation for the game against Bristol City this weekend as such deals cannot be arranged with Premier League clubs.

Few available options would possess the quality of Heaton and by investing in him come January, Leeds may find that they have signed a goalkeeper who can help take them back to the Premier League with plenty of experience at that level.

Until then, West Brom’s Jonathan Bond looks the most likely candidate but Leeds only have until 12pm on Friday to confirm a signing if they are to make a move to avoid fielding Will Huffer or Kamil Miazek.

Neither youngster has much first team experience, with Huffer having faced strong criticism for his last outing under Marcelo Bielsa when Leeds were thrashed by League One strugglers Oxford in pre-season.
