Tom Heaton recall would damage Aston Villa transfer plans

Burnley’s relegation danger continues to loom. Last night’s 2-1 defeat at home to Newcastle United was particularly damning and Sean Dyche may need to start considering changes in order to get Burnley back to their best.

One option he does have is to go back to a man who helped get Burnley where they are today. Whilst Joe Hart has performed well Burnley are clearly not as good defensively as they have been over the years. The fact it is not Tom Heaton in goal might have something to do with that.

It might be a different organisation, respect from teammates or simply bad luck on Hart’s part, but Burnley look weaker now he is between the sticks.

When times are tough, sometimes it is best to go back to basics. The basics for Burnley involve club captain Heaton between the sticks.

Heaton getting a recall, however, would be bad news for Aston Villa. The Sun recently reported that Heaton was on Aston Villa’s radar for January. Yesterday, the Express suggested that is where the England stopper will go.

He is now fully recovered from a shoulder injury and Aston Villa need a new keeper. Orjan Nyland, the summer replacement for Sam Johnstone, has failed to impress the fans at Villa Park. The goalkeeper position is one of Aston Villa’s weakest. Bringing in someone new could be key for promotion.

But if Burnley boss Dyche bows to fan pressure and gives trusted man Heaton the starting spot again, Aston Villa can forget about such a move. Fans at Villa Park better hope he stands by Hart.
