Tom Davies is staring at tough Everton season ahead of him

Everton midfielder Tom Davies has endured a miserable start to the new season and it looks like he could be staring at a tough year at Goodison Park.

The 21-year-old minute came off the bench for a late cameo on the opening day of the Premier League season against Crystal Palace, but hasn’t kicked a ball since in competitive action.

He was an unused substitute against both Watford and Aston Villa, but the biggest blow came when he was left out of the match day squad against Lincoln City in the Carabao Cup.

The central midfielder was also omitted from the squad in the win over Wolverhampton Wanderers before the international break and he’s slipped right down the pecking order.

Davies has played 90 first-team games for Everton since breaking through the academy and shown that he can cut it at Premier League level.

But he’s gone backwards under the managerial reign of Marco Silva and he will have a tough task breaking into the team again anytime soon.

Fabian Delph and Andre Gomes look like forming a solid partnership in the centre of the park, while Morgan Schneiderlin and Jean-Philippe Gbamin are also alternative options in the squad.

Davies needs to try seize any opportunity that comes his way and he’s at his best when he plays a box-to-box role.

The Englishman can definitely offer plenty to the team with his energy and technical ability, but it’s a worrying time for him right now.
