The midfielder is a superb talent and regular football would certainly enhance his development prospects.

If the Manchester City game is anything to go by, then Silva still rates the youngster highly.

The Portuguese boss surprisingly tossed Davies the captain’s armband for the game with the reigning champions.

Everton made a decent fist of things against Pep Guardiola’s team but were eventually defeated 2-0.

It was perhaps telling that Davies was given the captaincy by Silva.

Davies might not have featured a great deal for the first-team this season but this latest achievement indicates he still has a future at the club.

The England u-21 international will have relished the chance to lead his boyhood club in such a big game.

Michael Keane, Jordan Pickford and Theo Walcott were all in the starting line-up last night and would all have been worthy captains.

Silva placed his trust in the youngster, however, and that will have delighted the club’s supporters.

The Toffees have a proud history of giving their academy players a platform to go on and play first-team football.

This latest development will have delighted an army of supporters who have seen their team go through a frustrating run of form.

Davies is the future of Everton Football Club.

Last night highlighted his importance to the team and offered a firm indication that he is fancied by his boss.
