Toby Alderweireld drops Instagram hint over Tottenham future

Toby Alderweireld has dropped an enormous Instagram hint over his future at Tottenham Hotspur by liking a fan’s comment on one of his most recent posts.

The 30-year-old has been an excellent servant for Spurs, and has since signed a new contract to keep him at the club until the summer of 2020. But his new deal includes a £25million get-out clause.

Alderweireld has played 38 times for Tottenham in all competitions this season. He has broke his way back into the set-up after being somewhat ostracised by Mauricio Pochettino last season.

Now, the Belgian has dropped what could be a hint on his future. On his most recent Instagram post, Alderweireld was asked by a fan if he would stay at Spurs “a little longer”, and he liked the comment.

TBR’s view

Tottenham’s chances of continuing to remain a top-four side and even posing a title challenge hinges on Pochettino remaining, and keeping the core of his Spurs side intact.

Alderweireld and Christian Eriksen are perhaps the two likeliest players to leave in the summer from the starting eleven, given that they both have contracts only until the summer of 2020.

So his Instagram hint could come as a huge boost, and perhaps the biggest indicator that he will remain. But nothing is certain, and maybe another new contract with a big pay rise will have to be considered by Daniel Levy.
