Title-winning left-back says he wants to join Arsenal
Arsenal are in the market for a left-back this summer, according to the Daily Mail.
The Gunners will finish this season with Kieran Tierney as their only senior left-back, having allowed Sead Kolasinac to rejoin Schalke on loan in January.
Now, a highly rated 19-year-old who plays for one Turkey’s top teams has expressed his desire to move to Arsenal.
Ridvan Yilmaz, who helped Besiktas win the Superlig title this season, was recently called up to Turkey’s provisional 30-man Euro 2020 squad.
Speaking on TRT Spor, via Fanatik, the teenager commented on his call-up, before speaking on his ambition to play in England and also make his club some money in the process.
And when it came to the English club he wants to join, Yilmaz said his heart was set on the Gunners.
“I learned on the live broadcast that I was selected for the national team,” Yilmaz said.
“It was a dream for me to be selected for the national team and it has come true.
“I want to leave Besiktas by making money. My heart is in favour of England. I want to play for Arsenal, the Premier League team.”
Yilmaz might be a name fairly new to Arsenal, but he’s highly rated by Besiktas fans.
“He might even become Turkey’s left back in the Euros if he performs well throughout the season, we really don’t have much depth in that position,” Besiktas fan Aaron Armstrong told Breaking the Lines last year.
“Hopefully this will be his breakthrough season. He certainly has the potential to become better than Mehmet Zeki Celik, for instance, in my humble opinion.
“I expect him to get better here at Besiktas and make a profitable move in three to four years.”
Given whoever joins Arsenal at left-back will probably be Tierney’s deputy for the foreseeable future, a talented 19-year-old who could well play in a major international tournament is certainly a decent shout.
