Tino Asprilla has posted on Twitter as Newcastle United continue to edge closer towards a £300million takeover and has discussed links with both Mauricio Pochettino and Edinson Cavani.

Amanda Staveley’s efforts to oust Mike Ashley for the first time since 2007 look to finally come good, after the Sports Direct owner accepted an offer worth £300million. A takeover is expected to be announced in the coming days, or weeks.

ESPN claim Newcastle’s potential new owners have wasted no time. A shortlist of four managers including Pochettino has been drawn up to replace Steve Bruce, while the agents of Willian, Cavani and Dries Mertens have been contacted.

Toon icon Asprilla responded on Twitter to rumours that both Cavani and Pochettino could be on their way to St. James’ Park in the coming months – and he believes big names will be on their way to Tyneside.

The Tweet is translated as: “There is much enthusiasm for the new direction that will most likely takeover at Newcastle. There is already talk of Pochettino, of Cavani, for sure the big names for the club will follow and with it they will be able to start probing possible candidates for the sports project they are looking for.”

Other managers including Max Allegri, Lucien Favre and Rafa Benitez have been linked, while Barcelona trio Arturo Vidal, Philippe Coutinho and Antoine Griezmann are all said to be big names that the Newcastle board has considered.

Some reports suggest that Steve Bruce will be given time to showcase why he deserves to remain in the Newcastle hotseat, after a decent job in charge during the 2019-20 season. However, it seems inevitable a new manager will be appointed.
