Red Bull Leipzig striker Timo Werner told the Daily Mail that he is proud to be linked with a move to Liverpool.
The 23-year-old fired the only goal of the game as the Bundesliga outfit beat Tottenham 1-0 in the first leg of their last 16 Champions League tie.
Werner has been in red hot form for Leipzig this season. He has scored 26 goals and registered 10 assists, with his team currently sat second behind Bayern Munich in the race for the title.
Bild has strongly linked Werner with a move to Anfield. It is also claimed that the Germany international has a £51 million release clause in his contract for overseas clubs.

Werner’s goalscoring prowess seems almost certain to earn him a move to one of European football’s top clubs this summer, with Liverpool looking in pole position to claim his signature.
Having given Leipzig a slender advantage against Tottenham, he was quizzed about the links placing him with a move to Liverpool during the summer.
He told the Daily Mail: “I know that Liverpool is the best team in the world at the moment and when you are linked with that team it makes me very proud.
“It’s a pleasure but I know that Liverpool play a lot of good players and I have to improve myself and I need to learn many more things to get to that level and to play there.”

Werner will hope to claim the league title with Leipzig before his seemingly inevitable departure during the summer. Julian Nagelsmann’s team are a point behind Bayern, with just six points separating the top five teams.
Class
Werner boasts real quality and his goal haul this season could see other clubs challenge Liverpool for his services. These comments, however, would suggest that he does have an eye on potentially moving to Anfield.
It might impress the hierarchy at Anfield that despite scoring 26 goals this season, he still holds a desire to improve. Jurgen Klopp is a master of squeezing every last drop of talent out of his players and Werner could learn a lot under the German.
