Timo Werner has been speaking ahead of this weekend’s FA Cup final clash between Chelsea and Liverpool at Wembley and admitted he wishes Chelsea had beaten the Reds to the signing of Ibrahima Konate.
Konate could start for Liverpool at Wembley after a brilliant first season in the Premier League. Alongside Van Dijk, Konate has shared the duties with Joel Matip in the main to excellent effect. Jurgen Klopp will be delighted with his summer signing, and be confident there is more to come.

Of course, Timo Werner is another player Liverpool nearly signed as well. The German looked for all the world to be moving to Anfield at one point, only to see that deal collapse and Chelsea sign him instead.
And speaking ahead of Chelsea v Liverpool today, Werner has admitted he is impressed by Konate, conceding it’s a shame Chelsea didn’t get him first.
‘I like him a lot. He’s very calm. I played three years with him and he is a brilliant defender. It was unlucky that Chelsea did not buy him one or two years ago, but I think Liverpool did a very good deal with him,” Werner told Chelsea’s official site.
TBR’s View: Timo Werner Right To Be In Awe Of Konate At Liverpool
While things haven’t gone so swimmingly for Werner at Chelsea, Konate has made an immediate impact at Liverpool and there’s no question he’s been a fine signing.
The big defender looks an absolute colossus next to Van Dijk and has impressed pundits and fans alike, with former Reds star Jose Enrique labelling the defender as ‘incredible‘ for his performances this year.
If Werner does play today, it’s clear that he sees Konate as a bit of a task in terms of getting past. Surely, that plays into Liverpool’s hands a bit, and should worry Chelsea fans a tad.
