‘Time to shine’: Leeds fans send messages to Mallik Wilks on Twitter

Mallik Wilks expressed his disappointment after losing with Doncaster Rovers in the League One semi-final play-off on Friday night – and some Leeds United fans on Twitter responded by stating they can’t wait to see him back at Elland Road next season.

The 20-year-old is a product of the Whites academy and has spent the 2018/19 campaign out on loan with Doncaster in League One.

He’s a skilful attacker that has made a real impact at first-team level, scoring 16 goals and supplying 11 assists in 55 games across all competitions.

Doncaster were beaten by Charlton Athletic on penalties in the play-offs, with Leeds also losing their play-off semi-final this season against Derby County.

Wilks admitted he was “gutted” after losing and thanked Doncaster for his “unforgettable” year with them on his personal Twitter account.

Wilks proved himself to be a real attacking force in League One, with his pace and trickery a real handful for full-backs.

The left-footed winger will now return to Elland Road and it will be intriguing to see what the future holds for him.

Jack Clarke and Jamie Shackleton are two academy graduates to break into the Leeds senior team over the last year, which is perhaps why Wilks could follow suit and play a part in a fresh bid for promotion in the Championship next season.

Here are some Leeds fans replying to Wilks on Twitter:
