Tim Sherwood takes aim at ‘terrible’ Arsenal player for one moment during Sunday draw

Tim Sherwood has taken aim at Arsenal goalkeeper Bernd Leno on Optus Sport’s The Analysis Show after the German shot-stopper made a mistake during his side’s 3-3 draw against West Ham United on Sunday afternoon.

Leno, 29, has managed just 11 clean sheets in 38 league and cup appearances for the Gunners this season – and that lack of form showed on Sunday at the London Stadium. He conceded three goals in the first half, two of which were not his fault.

Jesse Lingard’s brilliant strike and Michail Antonio’s header, which flicked off Tomas Soucek into the net, were out of reach for the £100,000-a-week (Spotrac) goalkeeper. But Jarrod Bowen’s effort slipped in at the near post, under Leno.

Sherwood hammered the eight-time Germany international during his analysis, stating that the goalkeeper is “terrible” and that he isn’t having him. He also questioned the decision to sell Emi Martinez to Aston Villa for just £20million (Guardian).

“The goalkeeping is shocking. Oh he’s so bad Leno, I can’t have Leno. You’ve got the best goalkeeper that Arsenal have had in Martinez, at Aston Villa. You’ve got to stop that mate, it just frustrates me. Terrible,” Sherwood said.

TBR’s view – Do Arsenal need a replacement for Leno?

Clearly, Leno needs to be performing better and while it was probably the decision many would make had they been presented with either Leno or Martinez – it is clearly the wrong one. Do they need to be looking for a new goalkeeper?

Leno is good, but if Arsenal are to go for the top four next season – they need a new goalkeeper. Kevin Campbell recently urged the Gunners to take a look at Jan Oblak and while that is optimistic, clearly a big signing such as that is required.
