Tim Sherwood says Arsenal have a ‘scruffy’ player who’s just like Diogo Jota at Liverpool

For a long time, Arsenal have been accused of lacking goalscorers.

Indeed, it’s long been said that Arsenal need a striker, and the Gunners have been linked with a number of options.

Arsenal want Alexander Isak this summer, while Viktor Gyokeres has been linked to Arsenal too.

However, for all the talk of Arsenal lacking a goalscorer, over the weekend, they netted their 100th goal of the season.

Speaking on The Weekend Wrap, Tim Sherwood and Dion Dublin have been reviewing Arsenal’s performance against Ipswich, and Sherwood made an interesting claim about Leandro Trossard and his goalscoring ability.

Tim Sherwood says Leandro Trossard is like Diogo Jota

Sherwood and Dublin spoke about Trossard and his goalscoring.

Trossard is the best finisher at Arsenal in the eyes of some, and according to Dublin, the Belgian has a knack of scoring goals that others wouldn’t.

Sherwood made a similar point, claiming that Trossard is a scruffy finisher in the same way Diogo Jota is at Liverpool.

“Trossard has done it for a long time hasn’t he? He scores goals, he’s in the right place at the right time isn’t he? He blows hot and cold, but he scores goals that others would possibly get wrong,” Dublin said.

“He’s scruffy, he’s Jota, he’s Jota, he’s a scruffy finisher as well, he’s like a poacher, he misses chances, but he offers himself,” Sherwood said.

Leandro Trossard compared to Diogo Jota

Interestingly, this isn’t the first time we’ve heard Trossard compared to Jota in this way.

Indeed, Don Hutchison compared Trossard to Jota earlier this season, saying:

“You’re right. He’s the type of player Mikel Arteta will lean to off the bench, because his numbers are impressive off the bench. I think he reminds me of Diogo Jota the way he plays,” Hutchison said.

“There are a lot of attributes you can have in terms of skills, technique or character, but the word Tim uses is ‘effect’ and he can effect games. He’s a very good finisher, he’s very calm. He had a point to prove and he scores big goals. What a weapon to have if you’re Mikel Arteta.”

Trossard and Jota are uncannily similar in the way they play, but, based on the stats, one of these players is clearly better than the other.

Jota is much more impactful than Trossard, scoring at a much greater rate.

However, as the old saying goes, the best ability is availability, and Jota’s injury problems have been an issue for a long time.

Jota will end this season as a Premier League champion, but, who knows? Perhaps Trossard could go one better and win the Champions League with Arsenal this term.
