Antonio Conte’s counter-attacking tactics give Tottenham a chance of winning the Champions League this season.
That is the view of former Spurs manager Tim Sherwood, who was asked about the club’s hopes in Europe on TalkSPORT.
Conte has guided Spurs back to European football’s top table, and they got their group stage campaign underway with a 2-0 win over Marseille on Wednesday night.
Summer signing Richarlison got both goals with his head to open his goalscoring account for his new club in front of a raucous crowd.

Sherwood says Tottenham can win the Champions League
He said: “You’ve got a manager who is a serial winner, always wins wherever he goes. He will need to win this year. Daniel Levy’s given him the money very early in the transfer window, which he never does normally.
“He’s earned the right, Conte. Paratici’s helped obviously. Got the players in. He’s improved the players. He’s got a right spirit there. They play with a counter attacking threat with world class players at the top end of the field. They’re creating enough chances.
“Conte’s got a knack of making world class players work hard. Get back in, get behind the ball and counter attack. They play with a system which suits winning the Champions League. They really do.
“I’m not saying they’re going to win it. Of course not. Anything can happen. But if they keep their top players fit. The spine of their side is magnificent and it is efficient.”
Tottenham were due to face reigning Premier League champions Manchester City this weekend but the round of fixtures has been called off.
The league’s only two remaining unbeaten teams were all set to go head-to-head but the game will not take place tomorrow as planned.
That means that Tottenham’s next game could well be in the Champions League once again, in Portugal against Sporting on Tuesday.
