Tim Sherwood names one Spurs player in his team of the season so far

Tim Sherwood has suggested that Dejan Kulusevski has been brilliant this term as he named the winger as the only Tottenham Hotspur player in his team of the season so far in the Premier League on talkSPORT.

Kulusevski’s arrival hardly captured the imagination of Spurs supporters during the most recent January window. It appeared to be something of a panic buy, with Tottenham landing the Sweden international on deadline day.

Very quickly however, it became apparent that Kulusevski had something special. He was outstanding during the latter stages of last season, helping Antonio Conte’s men book their spot in the Champions League.

And he has largely picked up where he left off this time around. The youngster has one goal and five assists in nine appearances in the Premier League.

His absence was felt while he was out injured recently. But he made a triumphant return to the starting lineup at the weekend, proving to be the star of the show in the dramatic 4-3 win over Leeds.

That performance prompted Sherwood to name the wide-man in his team of the season, suggesting that he has proved how valuable he is to Tottenham.

“Kulusevski on the right-hand side, I think he’s been brilliant,” he told talkSPORT. “It just shows you, coming back into the team at the weekend, making the difference. He’s got great quality, still very young, 22 years of age. But he’s been brilliant up to now.”

There is no other word to describe Tottenham’s move for Kulusevski than a masterstroke. Spurs spent £8.3 million to take him on loan, according to the Guardian. And it would seem that they will pay no more than £30.6 million to make his deal permanent.

Landing a player of that quality for less than £40 million all-in is simply remarkable. And, as Sherwood suggests, he may well only get better in the years to come.

He has six goals and 13 assists in just 27 Premier League games. And he will now feel that he has to make up for lost time after missing several weeks.
