Tim Sherwood makes big Gareth Bale claim after Ryan Mason decision

Tim Sherwood has told Optus Sport’s The Kelly and Wrighty Show that he believes Ryan Mason will start Gareth Bale in all six of Tottenham Hotspur’s remaining games this term – having handed him a start against Southampton.

Spurs came from behind on Wednesday evening after Danny Ings opened the scoring from a corner, but interim manager Mason’s half-time team-talk seemed to do the trick. The London club came out flying in the second 45.

Bale, 31, curled an effort into the top corner to take his tally to 11 goals for the season – before Son Heung-min scored a late penalty. The win takes Spurs into sixth, but they have played more games than their top-four rivals.

This Sunday, Spurs are not in Premier League action – instead, taking on Manchester City and ex-Spurs boss Sherwood expects Mason to start Bale against Pep Guardiola’s side, and in the remaining five Premier League games.

“Between now and the end of the season, Ryan Mason will play him in every game,” Sherwood said. “He will definitely play [on Sunday]. 100%. 100% he plays on Sunday.

“Son plays on Sunday, and Harry Kane will play if he is fit,” Sherwood continued, when asked about Kane’s fitness. “Harry is so important, if they haven’t got Harry they don’t finish in the top four and don’t win the Carabao Cup.”

TBR’s view – Bale can provide the magic needed in a cup final

Rewind three years to the final between Real Madrid and Liverpool – and Bale was the star of the show. He scored twice,  beautiful overhead kick and a long-range effort that proved too hot to handle for Loris Karius.

Though he might not be the player he was, though he might not work as hard as a Steven Bergwijn, Bale has magic. He is capable of game-changing moments. So, while he is not prime Bale, he still has to start against City on Sunday.
