Tim Sherwood explains why ‘all the big clubs’ want PL star, Arsenal and Liverpool linked

Tim Sherwood has told Optus Sport’s The Analysis Show that “all the big clubs” want Brighton midfielder Yves Bissouma because he is a player that can be trusted to anchor the midfield – amid reports Arsenal, Liverpool and Leicester are all interested.

Bissouma, 24, has been excellent for Brighton this season despite the poor form of Graham Potter’s side – which sees them sit in  a lowly 16th place. Marshalling the midfield, he has come back from a tricky 2019-20 campaign to shine this time around.

Joining the club in 2018, he played 34 games in his first season – but injury and a lack of momentum limited Bissouma to just 23 outings last season. This time around, he already has 30 and is likely to grow closer to a century of outings for the Seagulls.

Athleticism, strength, defensive nous mixed with plenty of ability, Bissouma has all the ingredients a holding midfielder requires. Sherwood explained why Arsenal and Leicester are keen on the £15million ace (Mirror). ESPN say Liverpool are also interested.

“In Bissouma, they’ve got someone they can trust,” Sherwood says. “A responsible player. He knows exactly what the manager wants – he’s going to do the job for the side. You can trust Bissouma to do that job. That’s why all the big clubs want to take him.”

TBR’s view – Which club needs him most?

Leicester need more depth in the middle of the park, especially with Wilfried Ndidi constantly being linked with a move away from the King Power. Bringing in depth, and an improvement on Nampalys Mendy and Hamza Choudhury is important.

Bissouma would be ideal, and the lure of Champions League football is likely to tempt him. However, the size of Liverpool and Arsenal may prove tantalising. If the Gunners or Liverpool can qualify for even the Europa League, Bissouma might be swayed.

Arsenal do have numerous holding midfielders, with the resurgence of Mo Elneny and the signing of Thomas Partey. Liverpool could do with cover but he would not start. If Bissouma has all three to choose from, Leicester is the best option.
