Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly closing in on the sensational return of Gareth Bale from Real Madrid with talks said to be ongoing on Wednesday morning – and both Tim Sherwood and Andros Townsend have reacted to the reports.
BBC Sport have reported that Tottenham are in talks to sign Bale, 31, and his Real Madrid teammate Sergio Reguilon. It remains to be seen if Bale will sign for Spurs on loan or permanently – but his wages will be subsidised by Real Madrid.
Such a move would see Bale return to Spurs seven years after he left for Real Madrid in a world-record £85million move. He played 203 times for Tottenham before joining Real Madrid – where he has since won four Champions League titles.
Asked about Bale’s return to Tottenham, Townsend stated that he would be regarded as a “hero” should he return to the north London club. Sherwood, meanwhile, stated that Bale would have enormous pressure on his shoulders upon his return.

“He’s a world-class player, he’s done it in the Premier League for many years,” Townsend said, as per Football Daily. “He’s not been appreciated in Spain. Spurs will welcome him back with open arms. He’ll have hero status and get back to his best.”
