Mat Ryan has posted on Instagram for the first time as an Arsenal player after completing a move to The Emirates on loan until the end of the season from Brighton – and both Tim Cahill and Danny Welbeck have responded, among others.
Ryan, 28, has failed to make the matchday squad in Graham Potter’s side for the last seven Premier League games – being replaced by Robert Sanchez. His long-term future with the Seagulls remains in doubt.
But that has been put on the backburner after completing a loan move to Arsenal until the end of the season. The 59-time Australia international joins with Alex Runarsson expected to leave temporarily, meaning he will be Bernd Leno’s number two.
Ryan brings enormous experience with him having played 121 times in the Premier League and 59 times for his country. He underlined his delight to have joined Arsenal – a club he claims he supporters during his childhood.
He is expected to feature for Arsenal in some of the cup games and possibly in the Europa League, and could immediately make his debut on Saturday – when the Gunners take on in-form Southampton.
Ex-Arsenal striker and Brighton teammate Welbeck wished him the best of luck, while Australia legend Cahill told him to enjoy his time in North London. Both clubs’ Instagram pages commented, as did Aston Villa defender Bjorn Engels.
