'Tightness in his groin area': International boss provides update on Liverpool star
Liverpool ace Curtis Jones has “tightness in his groin area” and will be monitored ahead of England Under-21s’ next fixture, according to Lee Carsley.
The Reds ace earned a call-up to the Young Lions squad for their European Under-21 Championship qualifiers against Slovenia and Andorra.
On Thursday, Jones was expected to make his first appearance for the team since he was sent off at the Under-21 European Championships in March.
However, the Liverpool gem missed the qualifier against Slovenia, which saw England spurn a two-goal lead to draw 2-2.
Early goals from Conor Gallagher and Cole Palmer put Carsley’s side in control, but things went pear-shaped after the interval.
Mark Spanring netted in the 49th minute and Dusan Stojinovic completed the comeback on 66 minutes.
Speaking after the game, Carsley said of Jones: “He had a bit of tightness in his groin area.
“We will never put players in position where we will risk them.
“We’ll monitor the situation looking towards Andorra but we will not be putting him under any pressure to play.”
Jones has won six caps for England Under-21s, scoring twice.
The Young Lions are next in action on Monday 11 October, taking on Andorra’s U21s away.
After the international break comes to an end, Liverpool are in action on Saturday 16 October.
Jurgen Klopp’s charges host Watford at Anfield in a 12:30pm kickoff.
