'Ticks all the boxes': Journalist shares what everyone around Spurs is saying about one player
Football London journalist Alasdair Gold has shared on his YouTube channel what everyone he has spoken to around Spurs says about Dane Scarlett.
Scarlett, of course, has arguably laid down one of the earliest markers in pre-season following Tottenham’s opening friendly of the summer.
The 17-year-old scored Spurs’ goal as they drew with Leyton Orient in their first game under Nuno Espirito Santo at the weekend.
Of course, Tottenham fans need little reminding of how high the hopes are for the young forward. He made three first-team appearances last season.
Obviously, the concern is whether he will be able to realise his full potential. But judging by Gold’s comments, few at the club itself are too worried about Scarlett.
He suggested that he has impressed many with the way he conducts himself.
“I was speaking to some people around the club about him and everyone says he is the most grounded young man you’ve got,” he told his YouTube channel.
“You see young players who think they’ve made it the moment they walk through the doors, you see a lot of arrogance, you see lack of focus. You see the players who are incredibly driven, but maybe don’t have the same amount of talents as others.
“At this stage, and I very much want to state that and put a massive line underneath it, Dane Scarlett ticks all the boxes.”
Scarlett to surely get further chances to impress Spurs boss Nuno in pre-season
Scarlett is probably the player likely to benefit most from Tottenham’s lack of depth up front.
Harry Kane is yet to return to training after Euro 2020. And Spurs are yet to sign a replacement for Carlos Vinicius.
With that in mind, Scarlett can surely expect further opportunities.
And if he can impress once again, Nuno will surely have little choice but to give him more game-time next season.
